What is the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act?

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is a once-in-a-generation investment in our infrastructure and competitiveness. Governor Sisolak is committed to utilizing these historic funds to modernize our infrastructure, make life better for millions of Nevadans, and create thousands of good-paying, union jobs that will strengthen our economy.

Real Jobs for Real People.

Under Governor Sisolak’s leadership, Nevada is competitively and successfully navigating the acquisition and implementation of IIJA funds. The State is laser-focused on using these funds to strengthen and connect communities, aid our economic recovery, and create an estimated 140,000 new jobs for hard-working Nevadans.

There are two ways eligible entities can receive funding under the IIJA. First, resources are provided via direct funding, also known as “formula funding.” This funding is distributed based on formulas specified in federal law. Eligible entities, such as states and localities, may also apply for additional funding via competitive grants. The designated federal agency then awards competitive grants on a rolling basis.

Promoting Equity and Environmental Justice

Governor Sisolak is supporting the Justice40 Initiative, which is a historic standard designed to create equity and environmental justice across Nevada. The Justice40 Initiative sets a goal of having 40% of all benefits from certain federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities.

In support of the Justice40 Initiative, Governor Sisolak appointed an interagency Environmental Justice Team to ensure equity and justice are central to climate planning in the State. The Environmental Justice Team is working to ensure that investments from the IIJA support low-income households, Tribal partners, and disadvantaged communities in Nevada.  Learn more about the Justice40 Initiative here and review the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool here.

“To ensure the most vulnerable Nevadans are able to weather the worst impacts of climate change, I am committed to directing federal resources to support the Justice40 Initiative.”
